Philosophy Tutoring

Service Description

I offer tutoring on both the philosophy and religious studies A Level. In our initial meeting we will establish which parts of the syllabus you require tutoring on, developing a plan for going ahead. The lessons will consist of both reviewing/answering practice questions and discussing the key concepts, philosophers, and theories in the syllabus. Philosophy is best carried out in engaged but compassionate discussion where it can often be highly stimulating. Where I can, I hope to have such discussions with students. At the core of my concern in teaching philosophy is that we have a firm grip on why its questions matter. Philosophy can often seem like a subject happening on a far away island with almost alien like characters saying bizarre things, but such reflection always begins from completely ordinary concerns - concerns which often give point to the philosopher's persistent thinking. I hope to communicate this point consistently as we work through the syllabus. Finally, as philosophy is my speciality, keen students may also be taken beyond the A Level syllabus to deepen their knowledge of philosophy and prepare them for undergraduate level material and discussion.
